DIVING CONSULTANCY
The 1997 Diving at Work Regulations (DWR) lay out how, as a professional instructor, you should conduct diving operations.
The ACoP produced by the HSE is helpful in interpreting the DWR but there are still areas of uncertainty.
For anyone contemplating teaching Scuba Diving at any level professionally an understanding of
these regulations is vital. Getting it wrong can lead to prosecution by the HSE, accidents, injuries,
legal claims, invalid insurance and so the list goes on.
Dennis Wigg has been teaching professionally for many years and will guide you through the web of legislation,
addressing issues such as Risk Assessments, Project Plans, Emergency Action Plans, frequency of review etc.
These courses can also be used as evidence of “best practice” by non professional instructors where a
funding authority (for example a Student’s Union) may want reassurance that “best practice” is being followed.
Risk Assessment Training
Throughout any diving trip and course, safe diving practices and risk assessments are always a priority for the safety of you and your fellow divers.
For some dive sites, it is a requirement to submit a risk assessment of diving activities as part of the dive application.
Producing a generic risk assessment document for all open-water diving is also beneficial as reference for members planning and managing dives.
Dennis can talk you through the areas of the assessments and documentation to help ensure you will always have these essential requirements in hand.
Project Plan Preparation and Compliance
All diving project managers must produce a Diving Project Plan before any diving event/course takes place.
The Diving Project Plan is based on an assessment of any risks to the health and safety
of any person taking part in the Diving Project, and must consist of any relating information on a proposed
dive such as sea conditions, underwater visibility, pollution, depth, temperature, breathing gas, emergency procedures,
equipment used and much more.
With the help of Dennis you can ensure your documentation is always up to standard ensuring you will never
encounter any problems regarding your event Project Plan.
